Getting a driver’s license is a rite of passage for a teenager. But while your child celebrates starting this exciting new chapter, you as a parent now face the difficulty of having a teen-driver. While Driver’s Education courses teach teenagers the fundamentals of driving and the rules of the road, the reality is that teen drivers are simply not equipped to handle many of the possible situations they may encounter, greatly to a lack of experience.

Our defensive driving course for teens is designed specifically with new and inexperienced drivers in mind. In this class, your teen will be given the tools to compensate for their lack of experience by practicing real-life scenarios where things like speed, weather, road conditions, and unexpected obstacles in the road are often accident-causing factors.

Our highly trained team of instructors will bridge the gap between knowledge and experience, helping students to develop better decision-making during normal driving conditions, and quicker, more accurate physical responses to an emergency situation. During the Defensive Driving Course our instructors will guide your child through hands-on exercises that will provide them with the tools they need to more successfully navigate a variety of driving situations including:

  • Inclement Weather (rain, snow, ice, etc.)
  • Highway Driving Emergencies
  • High-Speed Driving Emergencies
  • Avoiding Obstacles (such as deer, another car, tree, etc.)
  • Tire Blow-Out

Our students are also taught how to confidently and successfully execute a number of driving techniques by using the following tools:

  • Fundamental Vehicle Control
  • Serpentine Drills (balancing the vehicle using steering, brakes, and acceleration)
  • Skid Control (front and rear skid)
  • Proper Braking (normal and emergency conditions)
  • In-turn Braking
  • Swerving
  • Off-Road Recovery
  • Anti-lock Brakes (ABS)
  • Successful Backing

There will also be a final exercise at the end of the course that incorporates all of the lessons from throughout the day and gives your child a final chance to practice the skills they’ve learned.

You can’t stop your child from growing up or protect them from all of the risks they’ll face as drivers. But, you can help make them safer by ensuring that they have the right tools, both mentally and physically, to avoid accidents when possible and to respond appropriately when an accident is unavoidable.

I am not a teen driver, but I am interested in taking an Accident Avoidance course. Can I still take this class?

Yes, you can still take this class even if you are not a teenager. This course content and instruction places an emphasis on new and inexperienced drivers. If you are new to driving, then this course might work for you. But, if you have some experience driving and are looking for an Accident Avoidance class, you might be better suited for our Accident Avoidance for Experienced Drivers If you would like to learn more about this course, simply follow the link here. If you are still unsure or have more questions, please feel free to contact us directly and we will be happy to help.

Can my child benefit from this course? He/She is 18 and never had an accident.

We believe that every driver benefits from taking an Accident Avoidance course. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics on teen drivers list the age reference from 15-19 years of age. Simply put, we cannot predict the future, but statistically speaking, all drivers will encounter some type of emergency situation that is unavoidable (bad weather, deer in the road, accident on the road ahead of you, another vehicle hits yours, etc.). This course will not only teach your child to avoid accidents, but it will teach him/her how to react when something happens that is beyond their control.

Can I be in the car with my son/daughter during their lesson?

Parents can be on-site at our training facility but are not permitted to be in the car during the lesson. We find that students are often much more relaxed and comfortable without the parent present, making the lesson run more smoothly. This is a fast-paced environment, and the more relaxed your child is, the more likely they are to learn and retain the valuable information that we will cover in the class.
